The Passion and Crucifixion

Christ and the two thieves

Oil on canvas. 60 x 90cm approximately.

As the three crosses are hoisted up, the bad thief grins mockingly at the good thief, through his absurd beaded fringe. The latter strains upwards towards Jesus, his eyes moist with contrition. A battered Jesus, returns the good thief's gaze, with love.

With the good thief's dyed hair and the bad thief's hat, I hoped to suggest lives thrown away on the most superficial level of reality.
